01 · The problem
Writing a policy is easy. Proving it's being followed is the hard part.
SB 848 requires every California private and religious school to adopt written policy by July 1, 2026 limiting staff-to-student communication via social media, text, and other channels that don't include the parent or guardian.
Most schools will get the policy on paper. Far fewer will be able to demonstrate, with timestamped evidence, that the policy is actually being followed when an incident, an insurance audit, or a state inquiry comes.
That gap — between policy on paper and policy in practice — is the exposure SB 848 was designed to surface. It's also the exposure your board, your insurer, and your families are about to start asking about.
02 · The visible difference
This is what SB 848 compliance looks like in production.
The same coach. The same student. Two systems. One leaves no trail. One leaves a complete one.
Without SafeTeam
UnmonitoredHey, can you stay after practice? Want to talk about something.
Sure coach, what about?
Don't worry about it. Just between us.
- No parent visibility
- No audit trail
- No way to prove your policy is being followed

04 · The honest part
What SafeTeam doesn't solve — and how we work with what does.
We're upfront about the gaps. Today SafeTeam handles monitored communication, household-based volunteer connections, parent transparency, and documentation. Training-acknowledgment tracking and a full compliance dashboard are on the roadmap — see the roadmap card below. SafeTeam does not handle:
Background checks & vetting
We integrate with the HR systems most schools already use for criminal history, fingerprinting, and reference checks.
Drafting your §32100 policy
Your school attorney does this. We provide template language as a starting point.
§44052 statewide database
Not yet active. Documentation generated in SafeTeam supports any future reporting workflow.
For the parts SafeTeam doesn't cover, we partner with school attorneys, HR systems, and risk-management firms. Ask us for an intro.
Built next, ahead of the July 2026 deadline
We're building toward the operational pieces of SB 848 that aren't in the platform today. Here's what's coming — we'll keep you posted during your Gap Audit.
Training-acknowledgment tracking
Annual mandated-reporter, professional-boundaries, and abuse-prevention training records — acknowledgment captured per staff member, volunteer, and board member, alongside the audit trail.
Compliance dashboard
A single view that tracks training completion, volunteer onboarding status, parent-inclusion rates, and audit-trail integrity across employees, volunteers, board members, and contractors.
Volunteer-module expansion
Today the volunteer module is built on existing household connections. Next: a dedicated workflow for adding volunteers, board members, and contractors outside the household graph.

Free 30-minute SB 848 Gap Audit.
A structured walkthrough of where your school stands today — and what it would take to be ready by July 1.
A SafeTeam team member spends 30 minutes with you on five dimensions:
Communication channels
What are your staff and volunteers using to talk to students today?
Parent inclusion
Where are parents in or out of those channels?
Training tracking
How are you tracking annual mandated reporter, professional boundaries, and abuse-prevention training across employees, volunteers, and board members?
Volunteer screening
What's your acknowledgement and onboarding workflow for the expanded mandated-reporter pool?
Documentation
If an incident happened tomorrow, what audit trail could you produce?
You leave with a one-page Gap Report mapping each finding to the relevant Education Code section, ready to take to your board.
No demo required. No commitment. Just clarity on where you stand.

06 · Timeline
The next eight weeks decide what your July 2 looks like.
Jan 1, 2026
Mandated reporter expansion to volunteers, board members, and contractors took effect.
— days to §32100
The window to stand up enforcement and documentation before the deadline.
Jul 1, 2026
§32100 written policy, training, and comprehensive safety plan all take effect.
Jul 1, 2027
Employment screening obligations and statewide misconduct database go live.
Schools that stand up enforcement and documentation before July 1 will be the ones with a defensible record after.
Schools that paper-comply with policy alone will be the ones explaining themselves to insurers, attorneys, and families when an incident happens.
The deadline is fixed. The work is real. The window to do it well is closing.
“SafeTeam has transformed how we communicate with our athletes and parents. The transparency and safety features give everyone peace of mind.”
